Leave some space in the plan. You may find a place you want to stay longer, a record you want to hear again, or a morning when the best thing to do is wait for the sun.

This three-day itinerary around Naggar and Jana fits a two-night stay. It gives you an arrival afternoon, one full day, and a departure morning. Add a third night if you want both a day out and a whole day in the orchard. There is no need to squeeze the second into the edges of the first.

Day one: arrive, walk up, put the bags down

If you are driving from Chandigarh, allow roughly five to six hours in usual conditions, followed by the walk. From Kullu–Manali Airport at Bhuntar, the road journey is around an hour and a half. Mountain roads can change those estimates, so keep the arrival afternoon lightly planned.

Our team meets you at the designated arrival point in Jana. We carry your luggage and walk up with you through the orchard. The path is uphill and usually takes about 15–30 minutes. Check-in begins at 1 pm.

Once you have settled in, come to the glasshouse. There are records to choose from and books to browse. You can ask us about a walk, or let the first afternoon remain an afternoon at the property. You have already done the travelling.

A daily sauna session and cold plunge access are included, if you would like to use them. So are your meals, snacks, chai and coffee. Tell us about dietary requirements before arrival so we can prepare properly.

Day two: choose the day you actually want

If you would like a cultural outing, make Naggar the centre of the day. The castle and the Roerich estate give you plenty to look at. Confirm opening arrangements and your transport, then allow enough time to enjoy the visits instead of watching the clock. Let us know if you will be away for a meal.

You could instead spend time around Jana itself. Its timber-and-stone houses and temple traditions are part of the village’s continuing life. Ask about a suitable route, keep to public paths and seek permission before entering religious spaces or photographing people.

For a longer walk, talk to us before setting out. Jana connects to a wider mountain landscape, including routes towards Matikochar and the Kais forests. What makes sense for a relaxed day depends on the conditions and how much walking you want to do. Pass crossings towards Chanderkhani and Malana need their own arrangements and belong to a longer trip.

Or stay. Bring the paints to a table. Make a candle. Start a board game that can last as long as it needs to. These are all perfectly good uses of the only full day you have.

Leave an evening for the orchard

Winter gives the fireplace in the common space a particular appeal. In suitable conditions, there are bonfires in the garden too. You do not need an evening excursion to have somewhere to go after dinner.

If the sky is clear, spend some time outside away from bright lights. The phase of the moon changes what you will see. A darker, cloudless night can be especially rewarding, but the pleasure of looking up does not need a particular photograph at the end of it.

Day three: breakfast and the way down

Check-out is by 11 am. Arrange your onward transport with time for the walk down, and let us know when you need to leave. A flight or bus later in the day is a reason to allow a generous margin.

If the journey home begins early, tell us beforehand. If you have the morning, enjoy breakfast without adding another destination. Packing and leaving take enough attention of their own.

If you can stay another night

Use the extra full day to separate the outing from the staying. Visit Naggar one day and keep the next for Jana, a locally advised walk or time in the glasshouse. Leave a book unfinished in a familiar spot and come back to it.

A longer stay lets you repeat things. You can walk the same path in different light, play the other side of a record or return to a conversation. Familiarity is one of the nicest things a few extra days can give you.
